Join us! We are currently seeking to fill two Board Associate positions.
Since 1928, Neighbors Credit Union has been helping its members manage their money and live well, all under the management of our strategic leadership team and the oversight of our volunteer Board. As a not-for-profit organization owned and operated by our members, our Board of Directors, Board Associates and Supervisory Committee are comprised of credit union members who volunteer their time and talent providing strategic direction for the continued success of the credit union and its members.
Why serve as a Board Associate?
Serving as a volunteer Board Associate with the Neighbors Credit Union Board of Directors is a rewarding experience, as you have the opportunity to engage in the cooperative spirit of the credit union industry and meaningfully contribute to the success of the Credit Union and its more than 47,000 members.
What to expect?
Board Associates along with Board Members and Committee Members help the credit union develop long-term strategic plans, create governing policy, and provide general operation direction as well as oversight of the Credit Union’s financial performance. Board Associates attend monthly board meetings which are generally held early evening on the 4th Tuesday of each month. These meetings are held in-person, with a hybrid option as needed. We estimate a Board Associate’s general time commitment is approximately 8-10 hours per month.
Through networking, training, and various learning opportunities, you’ll gain valuable insight and experience around best practices in board governance and operation of a financial institution and sharpen your understanding of strategic planning.
Who is an ideal candidate?
Board Associates think strategically, are good communicators, bring bright insight, are committed to diversity and inclusion, and are driven by the cooperative spirit of Neighbors Credit Union and our mission to make a difference in the lives of our members and the communities we serve. While a keen financial acumen is desired, there is no specific background or prior financial industry experience required. A strong board is comprised of individuals from unique backgrounds and varied expertise. Credit Union membership is required.

TACKLE HUNGER!
Hunger is a serious problem in the St. Louis metropolitan region, but it is solvable. As the sponsor of TACKLE HUNGER, Neighbors Credit Union has partnered with Operation Food Search, the local NBC affiliate KSDK 5 On Your Side, and local high schools throughout the St. Louis area collect non-perishable food donations to build a healthier and more vibrant region. Our TACKLE HUNGER campaign efforts in 2022 resulted in more than 44,000 pounds of donated non-perishable food and more than $6,000 in monetary donations. The value of these donations combined is $84,000, enough to provide quality nutrition to 16,687 people for one day.
And, we were back at it again in the Fall of 2023 ... finishing our Tackle Hunger campaign with a collection total of 68,722 pounds of food plus $1,800 in monetary donations! The non-perishable food donations collected are valued at $120,470.50 and represent enough to help Operation Food Search provide quality nutrition to 17,388 people for one day!
